Competition Handicaps

Maximum Handicap 

  • The maximum Handicap Index in NE Alliance Competitions is 18.4
  • Players with higher Handicap Indexes may compete, but strokes recieved will be limited to Handicap Index of 18.4
    • Playing Handicap may be higher than 18 when WHS calculation dictates.

Regular WHS Handicaps and Playing Handicaps (Sep-Oct).

  • Applies during September and October (i.e. During BST, before clocks go back), with Alliance on Acceptable measured course:
  • WHS Handicapping with current Handicap Index will be used
  • Handicap Allowance of 95%
  • Scores will be posted to ScottishGolf WHS for Handicapping
  • Stroke Indexes will be used for Amateur (Handicap) countback, e.g. Nett Scores on last 9,6,3,1 holes.

Alliance Handicaps (Nov-Mar)

  • Applies from November onwards (i.e. During GMT, after clocks go back)
  • All competitions will use Alliance Handicap.
  • Initial Alliance Handicap will be set to Handicap Index at date of Clocks going back, less any Alliance Adjustments for Top 5 positions or Division 1/2 voucher wins in Sep/Oct.
  • Scores will not be used for WHS Handicap Purposes
    • If playing on Acceptable Course, members may post scores for General Play
  • No Handicap Adjustment will be made based on Course Rating etc.
  • Amateur Countback will use 1/2, 1/3, 1/6 and 1/18 of Handicap for last 9,6,3,1 holes.
  • Alliance Handicaps will be adjusted as below:

Winter Courses:

  • When playing on frost courses will use Handicap Allowance of 75% of Alliance Handicap
  • If hole(s) are out of play, handicaps will be further reduce proportionally.

Note: For scoring on App, member should enter a Par score for a hole that is out of play.

Alliance Handicap Adjustments:

  • Only applies for Amateurs, after clocks go back
  • 3x Division 1 or 2 vouchers will get a 1 shot reduction
  • 5x Division 1 or 2 vouchers will get a further 1 shot reduction
  • A further 1 shot reduction for every additional Division 1 or 2 voucher.

Note: A Top 5 position in Division 1 or 2 will receive a prize voucher (Scratch or Division). If an amateur gets a Scratch voucher (higher value then Division 1 or 2) then players lower than 5th place may also receive vouchers.
